What you say ...I wasn't talking about just voting. What you say is unfortunately true about it being rather pointless in states like this one. But I hope to be able to volunteer for canvassing and such things in states that are close, something that I was not able to do much of in 2004.

With respect to your more general point, it's true that we're a bunch of useless rabble in the eye of politicians so worried about money. But if by my enthusiastic support I can give any extra boost to a candidate that I really like, especially one in favor of some sort of campaign finance reform, then I'm not sure what else I ought to do. It's not clear to me that there are many other avenues of influence left that would be worth pursuing and palatable enough that they stand any chance of attracting a critical mass of participants.Eric Allix Rogershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16986356238650409976noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7307350.post-19940121516148169352007-05-05T23:16:00.000-05:002007-05-05T23:16:00.000-05:00keep in mind that if you're voting in illinois, ne...keep in mind that if you're voting in illinois, new york, or california, there's no point in voting for the democrat. if the race is close in liberal states like these, then the democrat has no chance in the general election.

as i argued in the article, i see "incremental change in the electoral realm" as a dead end unless the left can organize itself and develop a popular and financial base to influence elected officials. otherwise they just take us for granted and cater to corporations.Walkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06912406198051338502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7307350.post-83575128229578677962007-05-05T20:14:00.000-05:002007-05-05T20:14:00.000-05:00Well-argued. Of course, where I differ from you is that, no matter what, I'm voting for the Democrat in the end. I just hope it winds up being one I like, but I'll still support a least-bad option. I don't think there's any other viable way to make progress but by incremental change in the electoral realm.Eric Allix Rogershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16986356238650409976noreply@blogger.com
