Okay, my sense of fairness forces me to add that comparing cities with over a million people in China and the USA is misleading because US cities sprawl out into suburbs in a way that Chinese cities don't (yet). A more accurate but not quite perfect comparison would be between Chinese cities and US metropolitan areas with over a million. As you can see, it's still pretty stunning: 53 for America versus China's 166.
